Second persona, according to Edwin Black, is the audience in mind. They are implied and intended to be targeted. Thus, were in the mind of the creator when creation was taking place of a text. The author created the writing and images for a specific audience. Authors may use different words with certain groups being targeted.
The Walt Disney Company is one of the largest corporations in the film and production industry. They are leaders of producing entertainment of a younger audience. Millions of children watch Disney films, making them (children) the targeted audience. Children need to be amused, and they must be entertained in order to keep the film ratings high. Disney adds strong visuals, a story line, singing, dancing, a happy ending, animation, and music to make this happen. This is intended to keep little ones entertained and eagerly waiting for more. Also, they add fictional characteristics like the characters Meeko, Flit and Percy, which help bring comic into the film. The fictional characters add comedy, getting an outcome of children laughing and entertained.
Therefore, the movie Pocahontas is targeted to children. However, the movie Pocahontas tells a story of what happened in history. Most children are not really aware of history and the significance when projecting the story. Pocahontas, is considered an educational film, but may be questioned to its authenticity of the actual story. The movie tells the story of how an Indian woman falls in love with an english settler. She saves him from being killed and in a way betrays her tribe.
In conclusion, Pocahontas is definitely targeted towards children and it is categorized as G. Initially Pocahontas, like any other movie is shown in movie theaters; however, now, anyone can see this movie on Netflix, on TV (at times), and if one purchases the movie at a store.

This is a really nice application of the second persona. Using the ratings, availability, style, and content to support you point, you advance a clear, focused thesis. Great job!
My only suggestion for strengthening this one, should you opt to include it in your final paper: do you think there are points where they are adapting to any additional audiences? Or can we tell something more about the audience? For example, this doesn’t seem directed at indigenous audiences. Disney often hides Easter eggs (or has a second level of story) for adults. Do you see any of that at play in this film?
Keep up the great work!

I read your post, I like that you are continuing to explore some of the elements of this movie that are not necessarily catered to children. Your posts make me pause to think and I like that your perspective of Pocahontas is so thoughtful and well-informed.

Hi Maria!
Still kind of getting used to doing all these comments. But like you, I am also a fan of Disney! Pocahontas was probably one of the best movies out there. I find the Second Persona very interesting and I think you did a good job explaining In good detail. I can understand it very well and it Is clear to Read which is also important for the audience like Vanja says.
I think maybe you could have explained Second persona a little more with more in depth examples throughout your post. But It was used really nicely still with how you used it.
I like how you have your posts all on one page then you get to click on it with a picture there! Great work 🙂

Hi Maria,
I think you did a great job explaining the theory of the Second Persona. Very simple, clear, the way you explained it is even better, and easy to understand, and that is very important for the audience.
I would maybe add a little more details since I personally didn’t say much about theory in my first blog, so Dr. Jones recommended me to use our reports and explain a theory more. However, I still think that you did great and the way you connected the theory to the Disney movie is also a great example.
Overall, great work in my opinion! Keep it up, we got this! 🙂
